He left his position at Weatherford Canada and sat at his kitchen table, daughter’s laptop in hand, to draft up a business case. The researchers showed Todd an example of a D-cell battery being used in microseconds to create an event that was hundreds of megawatts in intensity – able to destroy a giant piece of rock. If easily packaged and cost-effective, it had the potential to eliminate the need for chemicals, explosives, manpower, and heavy equipment during wellbore interventions. Over the course of one conversation they realized this technology’s many benefits. A few years later, they approached Todd Parker, then the Vice President of Weatherford Canada, with the concept.
